Valour FC sign Canadian defender Matthew Chandler

Valour FC announced the signing of Canadian defender Matthew Chandler on Thursday.

Chandler, 23, joins Valour FC after spending the fall of 2022 with the Wisconsin Badgers, serving as the team captain. He made 21 appearances, scoring two goals and adding one assist. 

The defender played for St. John’s University from 2018 to 2021, where he appeared in 52 games totalling 4527 minutes. He was named Big East Conference All-Academic Team every year he was there. 

Chandler spent time with the Oakville Blue Devils of League1 Ontario between his time with St. John’s and his stint in Wisconsin. He was named to League1’s second All-Star team in November 2022. 

Chandler is the 14th new signing the Winnipeg side has made this offseason, joining goalkeeper Jordan Tisseur, defenders Guillaume Pianelli, Eskander Mzoughi, Jordan Haynes and Abdou Samake, midfielders Jared Ulloa, Dante Campbell, Pacifique Niyongabire, Marcello Polisi, Juan Pablo Sanchez, Kian Williams and attackers Anthony Novak and Jaime Siaj.
